Francis Kimanzi Fired As Harambee Stars Coach

Harambee Stars Coach Francis Kimanzi has been sacked following Kenya’s elimination from the Africa Cup on Nations 2013. Kimanzi was axed as tactician together with other members of the technical team after Harambee Stars poor showing in Togo.

The statement from the Football Kenya Federation National Chairman Sam Nyamweya said the move is as a result of poor performance by the National Team. It came on a day that Kimanzi had stated his wish to continue serving as the Stars Coach upon arrival from Lome. FKF had on Monday intimated that it intended to overhaul the National Team’s technical bench in the wake of defeat of Harambee Stars 1-0 by Togo on Sunday. A statement by FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya had earlier said that the federation was deeply concerned with poor results despite its concerted efforts to prepare the team for its international assignments. Harambee Stars went down 1-0 to Namibia’s Brave Warriors in a 2014 Brazil World Cup Pre-Qualifier before Togo edged them out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory. The decision brings to an end an eventful seventh month of Kimanzi's stint at the National Team. He was reappointed in November last year and had won four matches, lost four and drawn one. The re-appointment of Kimanzi as National Team Coach was not the first as he had coached it on several occasions. A holder of a UEFA license, Kimanzi spent a year in Holland before coming back home in March last year and joining Sofapaka. Upon election as chairman, Nyamweya’s first move was to appoint Kimanzi as National Coach replacing Zedekiah Otieno.
