Former ECK Chairman Samuel Kivuitu Dies At 74

Former chairman of the now defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) Samuel Kivuitu is dead. Kivuitu, died on Monday night at the MP Shah hospital after a long fight with throat cancer. 74 year old Kivuitu has had a long battle with cancer that has seen him in and out of hospital in several instances over the last two years. Kivuitu’s death comes seven days before the March 4th general election. Kivuitu was blamed for the post poll violence after he announced a winner at the Kenya International Conference Center (KICC) in seclusion, with only one media house present. Kivuitu, however maintained that he was not to blame for anything as he simply announced the results handed to him, admitting that the mistake was in announcing the results with only KBC present.
